Bad Teeth Brushing Habits

Posted .

We all know how important it is to brush teeth twice every day, once in the morning and once in the evening. However, many people are not aware of the bad teeth brushing habits that they may be guilty of. Dr. Mark Andrews and our team have put together this list of bad brushing habits to break for a healthier smile.

Brushing After Meals
If you’d like to go the extra mile and brush after meals, that’s great! However, remember to wait 30 minutes first, especially if you had anything acidic, like soda or lemonade. You may drink water or chew sugarless gum while you wait to regain that clean, fresh feeling.

Toothbrush Drying
We advise against keeping your toothbrush in a closed container. Let your toothbrush dry in an upright position and in the open air. This keeps germs from growing as easily.

Toothbrushing Time
The average person brushes their teeth for 45 seconds, but it is recommended that people brush for a full two minutes, twice a day.

Pressure on the Teeth
Many people brush their teeth harder than is needful for an effective clean. If you brush too hard, you can damage your tooth enamel and gums. Be gentle when you brush.

Toothbrush Bristles
Toothbrushes with hard bristles can wear down the tooth enamel. Choose a brush with soft or extra soft bristles to protect your smile.
